It’s been an exciting year for the 20 members of the Northminster 4-H Beef Club.
The club is led by our fearless leader, Jackie Payne, and five assistant leaders.
Club meetings started in early October and have been occurring monthly at Greenwood Hall since.
There have been many highlights and memorable moments throughout the year.
Weigh Day was held the beginning of December and was hosted at Weaver Order Buying. Weigh Day brought all club members together with their animals.
The 20 market steers had an initial weight range of 730- to 960-lbs.
We are all very excited to see what the steers will weigh by the end of the 4-H year.
Along with the market steers, club members are preparing 11 heifers for Achievement Day and 4-H Expo.
Club speeches are a yearly highlight and took place in February with topics that ranged from phobias to memories and advice from a 4-H career.
Three members, Leah Beeching, Shelby Bygrove and Marleigh Mann won District Speeches and then Shelby and Marleigh went on to compete in provincial speech finals in Tisdale, Sask.
Another amazing day was the Pie Bingo held in April and cohosted with the Lashburn 4-H Beef Club.
Both clubs were fortunate to have the meal generously donated by Coolidge Country Catering.  The 4-H dads even got into the baking spirit and prepared beautiful goodies that we auctioned off at a premium price.
This event allowed both clubs to raise a substantial amount of money that will help them operate throughout the year.
Wash and Clip Day was held in April and hosted by the Creech family.
Members had the opportunity to learn grooming techniques from senior 4-H member Jayden Payne and 4-H leader Todd Bygrove.
Both gentlemen are experts in the field and their demonstration benefited all the club members.
Many of their techniques and tricks will be used by Northminster members in our upcoming Achievement Day.
The months of May and June are jam packed with meetings and activities for the Northminster Club.
Important dates are as follows:
• Final Weigh Day May 23.
• Final Meeting May 29.
•Northminster Achievement Day June 4.
•Lloydminster 4-H Expo June 5 – 6.
For anyone looking for great Canadian 4-H beef, join us at Lloydminster 4-H Expo where we are selling our market steers on June 6 at approximately 2 p.m..
Northminster 4-H Beef Club would like to thank all our supporters from throughout the year and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at 4-H Expo!
