Westjet passenger service from Lloydminster to Calgary is in a holding pattern.
The expected startup of daily flights on WestJet Link, a new regional air operating under a capacity purchase agreement with Pacific Coastal Airlines, on March 14, has been put back until June 21.
The delay comes as Pacific Coastal continues their work in order to be fully able to meet WestJet’s operational requirements said Westjet in a news release on Jan. 31.
“WestJet apologizes to our guests for the inconvenience these delays may cause,” said Brian Znotins, WestJet vice-president Network Planning, Alliances and Corporate Development.
“Impacted guests are being offered several different options including alternative transportation to Calgary to embark on their travel from there, obtaining a full refund or changing the date of travel.”
The launch of WestJet Link flights from Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Cranbrook and Prince George is also delayed until June.
WestJet is in the process of contacting all guests whose itineraries have been affected.
“While it is unfortunate WestJet has experienced delays getting started with its Lloydminster service, we remain eager to see WestJet aircraft coming and going at our excellent municipal airport,” said Mayor Gerald Aalbers.
“Through conversation with residents and business owners, we know there is a great deal of buzz about WestJet in the region, and our community looks forward to taking flight with them in June.”
WestJet announced WestJet Link on Nov. 24 with an introductory one-way ticket price to Calgary of just $111.43 and a low connecting oneway fare to/from Toronto and Lloydminter at $188.85.
Once the service begins, all WestJet Link flights will be operated by Pacific Coastal using its fleet of 34-seat Saab 340B aircraft.
Each aircraft will include six seats available in WestJet Plus, offering guests advanced boarding, no-charge for two checked bags and seating at the front of the aircraft.
